The first university based, parent managed, child care centre in Victoria.

1967

Pauline Cross and others organized the setting up of Monash University Child Minding Centre

1968

Monash University granted the use of 12 Beddoe Avenue, rent free for 1 year

Sister V Rush looked after 4 children before the granting of registration with Health Department approval

MMBW gave permit for 15 children: 12 over 2 years and 4 under 2 years

57 children attended in the first 6 months

The union Board agreed to give financial assistance of $800 to facilitate move to 2 Beddoe Avenue (G.P.T Sweeney Warden of the Union)

1969

Moved to 2 Beddoe Avenue

Registered for 25 children: 17 over 2 years and 8 under 2 years with Supervisor Sister Mc Hugh

1970

Name change to: Monash University Creche

Supervisor Edith Rogers with Elizabeth Barnfield and Bronwyn Surridge

1971

16 Beddoe Avenue registered for 15 children from 8:30 – 5:30

1973

Application to become a subsidized State Day Nursery

Declined offer to amalgamate with Monash Community Family Co-Operative Ltd.

1974

New Constitution

Registered as a Benevolent Society with the Hospital and Charities Commission

1978

18 Beddoe Avenue registered

Dorothy Hill appointed as Director

1980

Incorporated as a Community Advancement Society

Name change to: Monash Student Creche Co-operative Limited

1981

Extension/renovation to the building at 18 Beddoe Avenue completed

1988

Extension to the building at 16 Beddoe Avenue completed

1991

Mary Burley appointed as Co-ordinator

Received Commonwealth Fee Relief

1992

Removal of funding as a State Day Nursery

Commonwealth funding of Operational Grant

Moved to 62 Beddoe Avenue. Registered as a 60 place centre

Name change to: Monash Children’s Centre (Clayton) Co-operative Limited

New slogan unveiled

New constitution due to the implementation of the Co-operatives Act 1996

Families who are Monash University staff are able to receive Salary Sacrifice for childcare

Building extension and renovations completed by Ian Perkins Architects and Barnes Constructions

Angie Serwecinska appointed to job share Coordinator with Julie Cauchi

Vegetable garden established in empty playground with the help of families

Initiated the appointment of specialist teachers in areas of interest including: Sustainability, Emergent Curriculum, Occupational Health and Safety and Pedagogical Leader

Acquired additional land from Monash University to extend Room 7 playground

Recipient of Early Childhood Education Care Relief Package (ECE CRP), providing only 42% of our income, whilst ensuring free childcare provided to families from 6th April– 28th June 2020, during COVID19. Recipient of Job Keeper

Free childcare and Job Keeper ceased.  Recipient of Community Child Care Fund Special Circumstances Transition payment
